Along the Thaya \u2013 Lifeline of the Waldviertel<\/h2>\n

Where the Thaya flows leisurely through hills and forests, a region of quiet beauty, deep history and youthful energy unfolds. Here the German Thaya takes its calm course. It is the source river of the Thaya in the Waldviertel and bears this name because it is the longer and fuller of the two headwaters. It rises near Schweiggers and flows through Vitis, Schwarzenau, Waidhofen an der Thaya, Thaya, Dobersberg and Karlstein. After 75.8 km it joins the Moravian Thaya (Czech: Dyje) in Raabs an der Thaya.<\/p>\n

The Thaya \u2013 a river with soul<\/h3>\n

Whether as a border river or a lifeline, the Thaya is ever-present in the Waldviertel. It winds through dense forests, past small villages and ancient mills, like the one in Modlisch near Schwarzenau. Here it is not only a natural phenomenon but also a cultural companion: quiet, deep, poetic.<\/p>\n

El Molino \u2013 old mill, new ideas<\/h3>\n

One of these special places on the Thaya is El Molino<\/a> in Modlisch. The historic mill, lovingly restored with a fine sense for atmosphere, is today a space for seminars, encounters and inspiration. Here the power of water meets the power of the mind. Ideal for creative retreats, workshops or small cultural events.<\/p>\n

Fresh impulses in the land of granite rocks<\/h3>\n

More and more young people are discovering the Thaya region. They bring new ideas and, at the same time, deep appreciation for what is already here. A gentle change is taking place: studios are appearing in old farmhouses, new spaces for thinking in former mills, just like at El Molino.<\/p>\n

The landscape along the Thaya, from Thayatal National Park to the small villages around Raabs and Schwarzenau, often reveals its variety only at second glance: granite cliffs, moorland, enchanted riverbanks.
